Emily and Paul’s Luray Wedding

Khimaira Farms in Luray, VA will always hold a special place in my heart. In fact, my first blog post on this blog (from 2008) was a single image from Martha and Daryl’s wedding at Khimaira Farms, one of the first years that the farm was hosting weddings. Since then, I’ve had at least one wedding at the farm every year. This year, Paul and Emily’s wedding couldn’t have been more perfect. I spent the morning hopping back and forth between Paul and Emily, documenting their getting ready process. Emily was staying at an awesome airbnb and Paul was getting ready at the historic Mimslyn Inn.

We met back at the farm for seperate bridal party and groomsmen photos just before their intimate ceremony, followed by a casual stroll around Khimaira’s gorgeous property for some awesome portraits. After their first dance, and a delicious dinner from Pizzeria Moto (one of my favorite caterers), Paul and Emily snuck back out to capture a few more portraits during the golden hour, which is always truly special in Luray. With that done, you know the drill…we partied into the night.

Many thanks to all the awesome vendors who made the event possible:

Sarah and Brett’s Fredericksburg Wedding

Getting caught up on posting Spring weddings and couldn’t wait to share Sarah and Brett’s celebration. Their ceremony was performed at the historic Aquia Episcopal Church in Stafford, VA. Not much has changed about the church since it was built in the 1750’s, which makes for a gorgeous wedding! I’ve only photographed one other ceremony at this church, as they are understandably protective of this local gem. After the ceremony, we all took the trolley to downtown Fredericksburg where Sarah and Brett celebrated their marriage at The Inn at the Olde Silk Mill. On the way, everyone took turns getting photographed on the “Fireball Cam.” Sarah and Brett taped a GoPro to a bottle of fireball to capture some pretty awesome action shots of their friends and family enjoying the festivities. Because Sarah and Brett chose the Silk Mill, we got some pretty awesome access to the old abandoned power plant that sits along the Rappahannock River in Fredericksburg for portraits of Brett and Sarah and their bridal party. After that, it was a party into the early hours. Congrats again Sarah and Brett!

Sarah and Joe’s Richmond Wedding

Sarah and Joe were married at The Boathouse in Richmond, VA on a gorgeous Spring day. I had so much fun with Joe and Sarah, their bridal party and their families, and The Boathouse is definitely a venue that I look forward to visiting again. I started the day at the Marriott in Shockoe Slip (a gorgeous new hotel) documenting Sarah and Joe’s getting ready process. Before hopping on the trolly to the Boathouse, Sarah and Joe had a really quick, but incredibly fun, first look. Check out their faces! After a gorgeous ceremony overlooking the James River with the cityscape in the distance, we headed down to the docks to create some fun portraits of Sarah and Joe and their attendants. Proving once and for all the age old maxim “You’ll never know unless you ask” the bridesmaids and groomsmen talked their way onto a boat! (We may or may not have done some Leo and Kate moments–please forgive us). After a quick trip up to the roof of the Boathouse for a few more portraits, Sarah and Joe partied well into the night until their grand exit with streamers(a great alternative to sparklers if your venue prohibits them). Congratulations Joe and Sarah, and thank you for giving me the honor of being part of your wedding!

Liz and Brad

Liz and Brad were married at The Carnegie Institute for Science in Washington D.C. in early May. You might remember Liz and Brad from their gorgeous Cherry Blossom engagement session from last Spring. Check them out here. Liz and Brad chose the Carnegie because they fell in love with its grand neoclassical architecture, inside and out. As you’ll see in their photos, we made sure to incorporate that as much as possible! Liz had a first look with her father in the main entrance, and a first look with Brad down the gorgeous spiral staircase that leads into the rotunda. When Liz and Brad weren’t blotting their eyes from tears of joy, they were ear to ear smiles the whole night! Congratulations Liz and Brad!

A special thanks to Courtney Swierczek of A Sweet Soiree, Spilled Milk Catering, and DJ Dan Goldman of Bialek’s Music.

Joy and Dan

Dan and Joy were married at Stevenson Ridge, one of my favorite venues in the State of Virginia. When I met with Joy and her mother a few months before the wedding, they both warned me that it was going to be an emotional day, and they certainly lived up to that promise! Start to finish, the day was filled with laughter, tears, and tender moments. Dan and Joy opted for a first look, and were so happy they did! I know that the first look isn’t for everyone, but for couples who are looking to enjoy their cocktail hour, and have some relaxed moments together before the ceremony, you really can’t go wrong with a first look! And, take a look at Dan’s face during the ceremony! That magic is definitely still there as Joy walks down the aisle. Congratulations Dan and Joy!
