Joy and Dan

Dan and Joy were married at Stevenson Ridge, one of my favorite venues in the State of Virginia. When I met with Joy and her mother a few months before the wedding, they both warned me that it was going to be an emotional day, and they certainly lived up to that promise! Start to finish, the day was filled with laughter, tears, and tender moments. Dan and Joy opted for a first look, and were so happy they did! I know that the first look isn’t for everyone, but for couples who are looking to enjoy their cocktail hour, and have some relaxed moments together before the ceremony, you really can’t go wrong with a first look! And, take a look at Dan’s face during the ceremony! That magic is definitely still there as Joy walks down the aisle. Congratulations Dan and Joy!

Courtenay and Alex

Courtenay and Alex were married at the Washington International School in Washington, D.C. this April on the perfect Spring Day! The wedding day was full of touching moments, heartfelt speeches, and a whole lot of fun! When I met Courtenay and Alex last year for their engagement shoot along Rock Creek Parkway they regaled me with stories of their hilarious and sweet courtship abroad. Their wedding was a true reflection of their romance, and I couldn’t have been more delighted to be a part of it! Congratulations Alex and Courtenay!

Cabin Creek

Last month I was contacted by Cabin Creek to create cover art and promotional photographs for their new EP, Goodbye Home, set to drop on July 28th. If you’re in the Fredericksburg area, join them at the Kenmore Inn for the release party on July 31st at 7:30p.m. Below are a few of the guys’ favorite shots from our quick session. You’ll have to buy the album to see the cover and the rest of the material we created. Not to mention, the music is awesome! If you need promotional photos for your band, give me a call!

Scott and Jess’s Chicago Wedding

Back in March I travelled to Chicago to photograph Scott and Jess’ gorgeous winter wedding. Yes, March still counts as the winter in Chicago! I’ve known Scott’s family for a long time, having grown up as neighbors through our high school years, and I was honored to be a part of the wedding and to get to know Jess’ side of the family. It was a warm March day in Chicago (32 degrees), so we got to spend some quality time outside for their first look and portraits. After that it was back inside for a touching ceremony and an awesome celebration. I know these two have been loving the last three months of married life. Here’s to many more to come!

Marsha Wallen - Dear Aaron,

Your mom told me about your blog today! Beautiful! Every time I look at these pictures, I see something that I missed on previous viewings. That must be part of your magic, Aaron. We are seriously thrilled with your photographs and are so happy you said yes! With great appreciation and admiration, Marsha Wallen

Fly Fishing with Orvis Woodbridge

I’ve been a passionate angler for most of my life, but it hasn’t been until recently that I’ve discovered fly fishing. It didn’t take much to turn me into a life-long convert, and most of that was thanks to the folks at Orvis Woodbridge, my go to spot for gear and an insane wealth of knowledge. Over the course of the last year I’ve developed a pretty good relationship with the staff there. Their free Fly Fishing 101 course gave me more insight into the world of fly fishing in a couple hours than I could’ve ever hoped for. Since then, I’ve been out with the group twice to photograph their fishing exploits. Recently, they contacted me to document their beginner trout school that’s held at Rose River Farm in Syria, VA. I, myself, was a student in the school last November, and can’t recommend the experience enough. For those of you more experienced anglers, Rose River Farm is a beautifully manicured private fly fishing water available for booking. If you haven’t fished the farm yet, you really owe it to yourself. Once the calendar opens up, don’t hesitate. It’s likely the most popular private farm in central VA. And for good reason. The owner, Douglas Dear, is an avid fisherman, conservationist and advocate for the sport. Rose River Farm is also host to numerous Project Healing Waters events throughout the year.

The trout school is run by Orvis Woodbridge’s store manager, and fly-fishing guide extraordinaire Capt. Duber Winters. The morning starts off by dressing out for wading, and is followed by an entomology lesson and fly-casting demonstration. After that, the group splits up with guides Mark, Will, Mike and Duber, and it’s off to fish for the morning and afternoon. I spent the day creating promotional images, and having a blast doing it. Of course, towards the end of the day when everyone was heading home, I stuck around with Mark and Will for a little after hours fishing. Looking forward to heading out with them again soon!
